Kathryn and Daniel prepare for KathNiel's 2017 TV series, La Luna Sangre

The fans of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla were pleasantly surprised when ABS CBN recently announced that KathNiel will have a new teleserye in 2017 with the working title of La Luna Sangre.

KathNiel's new teleserye is supposedly the sequel to ABS-CBN's previous TV series LOBO (2008) and IMORTAL (2011).

In the Reel/Real Exclusive interview by ABS-CBN Star Cinema, Kathryn Bernardo said that they are super excited about the upcoming series because they have not really done the "action" genre before. She said she is into Muay Thai now so she'd be ready for the stunts required for the series.

Meanwhile, Daniel said he will do Muay Thai, too. But at present he's dieting, in preparation for his role.

Both of them were amazed when the project was offered to them. But they are also feeling the pressure, with Kathryn saying, "Grabe din yung pressure, kasi ang ganda ng pagkagawa nila dun sa dalawa e. Kaya kailangan din namin ma maintain yun." (There is much pressure too, because the two (series) were made beautifully. So we need to maintain that.)

Fans and members of the media shrieked and giggled when the teaser for the series was shown during the Christmas Trade Launch at the Marriott Grand Ballroom on November 22.

The teaser showed a montage of scenes from Lobo and Imortal before it segued to the announcement of La Luna Sangre. No BTS yet, just solo medium shots of Kathryn and Daniel's face, then a still shot of the two against a backdrop of a full moon and a blood-tinted sky and landscape.

A lot of people have been waiting for a new KathNiel teleserye since Pangako Sa 'Yo, the love team's last tv series, ended last February 2016.

Though KathNiel had appeared as guests in a lot of TV shows and even made the blockbuster film Barcelona: A Love Untold, their fans have been yearning for a daily TV series. For them, there's nothing like a KathNiel teleserye to make their day complete.

Last week, it was announced that KathNiel will have a new film, this time a rom-com, which is scheduled for release next year. It will be filmed locally, according to its director Mae Cruz-Alviar.

The 2017 film is a total turnaround from what Daniel Padilla said in an interview in Tonight with Boy Abunda more than two months ago. He said way back then that he and Kathryn might not be together in their next film or will have separate film projects in the future.

Well, what Daniel said will definitely not apply to 2017. The big bosses at ABS-CBN must have changed their minds after the resounding success of Barcelona: A Love Untold, which reportedly earned ₱321 million worldwide.
