₱8 minimum fare for jeepneys in NCR, Regions III and IV starting February 10

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the minimum fare of 8 for jeepneys plying in NCR and Regions III and IV.

The additional one peso from the current 7 minimum fare will be implemented on Friday, February 10 starting at 12:01 AM, according to LTFRB.

The press release of LTFRB further states that "All PUJ operators shall post a Notice of Provisional Fare Increase inside their public utility vehicles that would be conspicuously seen by the riding public."

Only the minimum fare was increased. The rate for every succeeding kilometer in excess of 4 kilometers remains the same at 1.50.

The 8 minimum fare for the jeepneys was approved after several transport groups filed a petition for the increase in view of escalating oil prices.

Meanwhile, the proposal of reverting the flagdown rate for taxis in Metro Manila, Cebu and Panay to 40, is still being studied by the board.

Jeepney drivers said the minimum fare hike will help them cope with the continuing increase of crude oil prices.

But commuters gave mixed reactions to the LTFRB decision. Some of them understand the plight of jeepney drivers, while some are saying that although the increase is only one peso, it will affect their budget just the same.
