New Nokia 3310 to launch in PH by June; features, specs here

The new version of the iconic and all-time favorite Nokia 3310 is slated for release in the Philippines this coming June, according to HMD Global.

The nostalgic phone, which made waves when it was relaunched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona, will be out in the market again, 17 years after its debut in 2000.

Known for its toughness, the original version of the 3310 was included as one of Finland's national emojis in 2015. Its emoji was referred to as "The Unbreakable".

Videos abound online on how people subject the original 3310 to all kinds of torture to test its durability or simply just for the heck of it.

The new version appears to be as tough as the original version and has more features that will surely make it a big hit among users looking for a sturdy, reliable feature phone.

Like the older version, the new Nokia 3310 is also GSM-based and requires 2G network. This time, it showcases improvements like a 2.4" color display with a 240 x 320 resolution, 16GB internal storage, a micro SD slot with support up to 32GB, and a 2MP rear camera with LED flash.

There's no Wi-Fi but there's now Bluetooth connectivity, unlike in the original 3310. Also, you can now listen to music in the new version via FM radio or MP3 player.

The popular game, Snake, is still included as a permanent feature. The game is more vibrant not only because it is in color but also because the snake is more agile and not limited to right-angle moves. There are some who prefer the old version of Snake though, and expressed their wish for an option to revert to the previous version.

The new 3310 has both single SIM and dual SIM variants. Unlike the original, only the back cover can be changed. It comes in glossy red or yellow, and for those who like it muted, there's matte blue or grey.

But the best feature of the new Nokia 3310 is its amazing battery life, which allows up to 22 hours talk time. With its battery upgraded from 900mAh to 1200mAh, the new 3310 can last up to 31 days on standby.

People will run out of things to say on the phone or get sleepy before the battery runs out.

Despite a more powerful battery, the new Nokia 3310 is much lighter and thinner than its predecessor. Weighing only 79.6 grams, it is a bit taller and wider than the original.

Though the new Nokia 3310 is just a few months away from launching in the Philippines, there's still no exact price per unit. The iconic phone is advertised at €49 on its website. At current exchange rates, that would convert to ₱ 2,660.

Gauging from the response to the new Nokia 3310's relaunching at the MWC 2017 and on social media, it seems Nokia will have a monstrous hit with its retro phone.

Who wouldn't want a phone with a battery that will last for a month on standby with just a single charge? You wouldn't need a power bank for this kind of phone.

Nokia better be prepared with lots of new 3310 units when it goes on sale this second quarter. This small phone is gonna be big.
